Here are some ideas on how to stay warm but not overdress for winter. The secret is always layers, flexibility and high performance gear. Here are some examples
Let’s take a look at different weather conditions and how specific cycling gear can help
Cool Weather: You can start with a short sleeve jersey. Arm warmers are great to give you a little warmth but roll up easy and fit in your pockets. If it is a bit colder, you can use a base layer under you jersey to trap warm air near your body. The next level would be to layer with a long sleeve. Some people like buy long sleeves one size larger for layering but most people prefer to purchase the same size long sleeve as they wear with short sleeve jerseys. Consider a winter bib short that is made of thicker material.
Cold Weather: Let’s assume it will never warm enough on this ride to want to get down to short sleeves. Start with a base layer and long sleeve. Let’s jump to the extremities. A cycling cap will keep some wind out of your helmet vents. A full finger glove will keep the ends of your fingers warm. A neck gaiter is handy to keep your chin warm and can be raised and lowered. Keeping your knees warm is important for long term joint health so start with bib knickers.
Really Cold Weather: Start with a base layer and long sleeve. Add a vest to keep your core warm or a jacket for the extreme cold. Use an under helmet cap to keep you head and ears warm. Full finger gloves are a must. After a longer ride, you might have the cold leaking into your shoes. Consider wind proof shoe covers to keep them warm. A baklava can keep you head, neck and face warm in the cold. Finally, you want to keep you legs warm with warm bib tights. Good tights will not keep you warm but come with a good pad for long rides.

Riding your bike alone or six feet from your mates is allowed. It is a great way to keep fit during this time. Try and stay off bike/pedestrian trails as we have found they can be crowded at this time.

]]>We would like to wish everyone a wonderful holidays. We hope you get a chance for some cycling enjoyment and time with the people you care about. Since we care about you, we thought we would share some tips to help make you ride safe and enjoyable.
1) Plan you ride upfront for best cycling roads. Those main roads you take to commute in your car are not usually the best for road bike riding. Keep you eyes open for less used roads that may be a bit out the way. Less car traffic will give you a better experience. Check you with your local bike club website or bike shop for ideas. The collective knowledge of these cyclists may surprise you with new route that is very pleasurable. I have added some creek side bike trails to my routes. Sure they are a bit out the way but they are enjoyable and car free.
2) Keep a straight line when driving along parked roadside cars . It may seem reasonable to weave in an out when there are gaps in parked cars along the road to get more space from traffic. It is best to avoid this and keep a straight line when driving along the parked roadside cars. Weaving in and out could surprise a driver so it is best to hold a straight line for better visibility
3) Watch for red light runners. In the past I would really focus on beating my previous training ride times. When the light at intersection turned green, I would sprint across the intersection. A red light runner taught me a lesson. I was lucky and saw him in time. Now when the light turns green for me, I look both ways to make sure the cross traffic has stopped. Sure, I lose a few seconds of time but it is worth making sure they stop on their red lights. Please learn from my close call.
4) Be Visible. Wear some bright colored clothing. Check out the new bright LED lights. Try to have some eye catching gear to make sure you are seen. Stand out and be seen
We wish you very Happy Holidays and Great Rides.
]]>What about "Look Strong". I was recently doing a training ride on Sonoma Mountain Road. There are times when you don't feel energetic and you just want to stay in the saddle and get to the top of that ridge. There are other times when you have the fire, are out of the saddle, and really feel powerful. This day, I felt powerful. As I reached the ridge, another rider was coming the other direction. I waved to him and he said "Look Strong". I was thrilled that he had this impression. I then realized that no matter how bad I feel on the climb, I want to look strong.
And so that the story behind the tag line. Feel Fast. Look Strong is why we sell only high quality cycling clothes and why we ride. And it is our goal that you also Feel Fast and Look Strong as well.

3. Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) |

4. Geraint Thomas (Team Ineos) |
|
5. Nairo Quintana (Movistar) |
This is an interesting list. Note that Chris Froome that won four tours for Team Sky (2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017) is injured due to a crash in June. Also Geraint Thomas, last years winner, is only shown as fourth. This makes sense since this list is based on June form. Last year, Geraint Thomas has never won a Tour and was racing hard before the Tour for the most podium finishes to impress his team. This year with a Tour win in he can race more strategically and keep his best for the Tour.
Be sure to tune in this year and see if the Tour winner is on this list. And remember, ProCycleGear.com has all the above contenders team kits!
