How to size Italian Jerseys and Bib Shorts for a Gift.

Posted by

It's holiday time and someone gave you the hint that they would like some cool Italian cycling clothing but you want to the size right.  No worries, we are here to help.    Here are some tips:

1) Sneak into the the closet.   Check the labels on some of the gear he has.   If they are Italian made clothes like Nalini, Santini, and Vermarc then you are in luck.  The label size is what we call the Euro size.  For example if the jersey label says M then the jersey is a Euro M3. You can order with confidence that his holiday gift will give.

2) He has other jersey.  Pearl Izumi, Trek, Specialized, etc all size for the USA market.   So if you see a jersey that says M, we would call it a USA Medium.   It is hard to say for sure since all these brands exact sizes vary but this is good starting point

3) Get exact.   If you can get a jersey or even a tee shirt that fit him snug,  you can measure it and get the exact size.  It is easy.  Just spread it out flat.    Put a measure under the where the sleeves meet the chest.  In other words, measure from arm pit to arm pit.   For example, if you find a Hanes medium tee shirt and measure it.  Once you lay the measure across the jersey  you might measure 18.5 inches.   Double your measurement.  You will get 37 inches. If you look at the size charts,  you will see that is a Euro L4.  You are done.
